Course Summary

As of August 2020, there were 400,000 participants of the NDIS in Australia (and growing!) and of those, 56% have a primary diagnosis of autism or intellectual disability.

This 2-day live 'virtual' workshop has been specifically designed for Child & Adolescent psychologists across Australia to help up-skill in conducting high quality, evidence-based Clinical Assessments for Intellectual Disability. The workshop uses Dr Ratcliffe signature style of bringing the latest evidence-based practice to life with real-life clinical and case examples. A range of reflection and interactive activities keep the learner interested and engaged. Live demonstrations and participant skills' practice, combined with a range of templates and resources will leave Psychologists well equipped to conduct high quality Clinical Assessments for Intellectual Disability.

Course Overview (DAY 1)

Psychologists will increase their knowledge, skills and confidence in Clinical Assessment of Intellectual Disability in a 2-day 'live' virtual workshop.

  • Ethical Practice in Assessment of Intellectual Disability

  • A Comprehensive Framework for Clinical Assessment of Intellectual Disability

  • How to conduct a Clinical Interview with a Child with Autism and/or Intellectual Disability

  • How to Conduct a Parent Developmental History Interview

  • Conducting IQ testing in Autism and Intellectual Disability (Challenges and Opportunities)

  • Interpretation of the WISC 5 - The 6 Level Successive Approach to Interpretation (Sattler, 2020)

  • Assessment of Adaptive Function - Interpretation of the ABAS-3

  • Assessment and Screening for co-occurring Mental ill-health in Children with ID

  • Writing the Report - How to bring together your comprehensive assessment

  • How to deliver results in a feedback session for parents/carers

  • Certificate of participation on completion.

  • 14 hours of CPD

Dr Belinda Ratcliffe

Dr. Belinda Ratcliffe, lead author of the award-winning Westmead Feelings Program 1 for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder is a highly qualified Principal Clinical Psychologist and Researcher with a PhD in Autism Spectrum Disorder from the Sydney Medical School, University of Sydney. Belinda has received multiple prizes in recognition of her work. Dr. Ratcliffe is a former Lecturer in Child and Adolescent Clinical Psychology at Western Sydney University, leads a team of Clinicians in South Sydney at 'The Emotions Clinic Australia', dedicated to making a lasting impact in Autism, Intellectual Disability and Mental Health. Dr Ratcliffe provides training, clinical supervision and consultancy across Australia to a range of Health, Disability and Education Government, Non-government and Private agencies, including the Children’s Hospital at Westmead, Mater Hospital in Brisbane and NSW Department of Education and Communities.
